11-year-old Zahkai is from River Ridge, LA. Even though Zahkai suffers from disorders of the endocrine and immune systems, he does not let that stop him from living him life to the fullest and doing the things he loves! He and his family had a life-changing and joy-filled experience when he had his wish granted to meet Goofy at Disney World! They wanted to make sure other critically ill children get to have that same opportunity.
Inspired by having his very own wish granted, he along with his friends and family decided to set up a stand on National Lemonade Day, with a portion of their proceeds going directly to our local chapter! They raised over $100 to help create more wonderful wish experiences for other children who face life-threatening medical conditions.
Zinaida, Zahkai's mom, shared these lovely words:
"If I could write a book on Zahkai’s wish trip I would. Zahkai’s wish was to go to Disney World and meet Goofy. Not only did he meet Goofy, but he had a chance to go to Universal Studios and Sea World. My favorite part of the trip was on the airplane - the steward came across the intercom and announced that Southwest had a special guest flying with them today and his name is Zahkai! He asked everyone to wish Zahkai well on his trip. Everyone clapped and when they exited the plane they wished him well!
On the day Zahkai met Goofy was another favorite part. Goofy knew Zahkai has speech problems, so Goofy signed to Zahkai, "I love you," and Zahkai in return signed back, "I love you." I was in tears. To have seen first hand how everyone worked together to grant my son’s wish is the best, most selfless act anyone can give. From the sponsors to the limo service, from Southwest to Give Kids The World - for their amazing staff and the wonderful treatment we received. To Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World for making the parks special for kids like Zahkai. And of course Make-A-Wish for the wonderful staff, the support, the planning; thanks again for this my son will forever be grateful."
