Sometimes we come across a wish that not only illustrates the hope, strength, and joy that wishes bring to children with life-threatening medical conditions, but also shows the strength, resilience, courage, and selflessness that our wish kids demonstrate.
One such wish was 16 year old Tyrek from Southeast Louisiana, who wished to make a church donation! Tyrek was diagnosed with heart failure at the age of 16, underwent multiple surgeries, and would be put on the heart transplant list. Through this trying time, Tyrek’s family found support through their church and community. Because of the role the community played in Tyrek’s recovery alongside his family, he knew exactly what the one true wish was in his heart. When the time came for him to think about his wish, he did not hesitate in his decision to give back to those who gave to him when he and his family needed it the most.
He surprised the members of the church one morning before services with a check for $5,200, wanting to show his gratitude for the all of their love and support, and for the role they played in his life and recovery. This wish gave Tyrek a platform on which to leave a lasting impact on those who had left a lasting impact on himself and his family.
