On July 1, 2008 Anna was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She was in Gatlinburg, TN for a family vacation when she started having symptoms. She was having joint pain in her hips, was barely eating anything, and was tired all the time. Her mom knew that something was not right, so she took Anna to Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, where she was diagnosed. Anna went through two and half years of chemotherapy treatment, along with many hospital stays, spinal taps, and blood/platelets transfusions. On October 22, 2010 Anna had her last chemotherapy treatment.
In May of 2010, Anna got to go on her wish trip to New York City. She got to do many things while she there and one of the perks was seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time. Anna’s favorite part of the trip was when she saw the Broadway play, Mamma Mia. She loved every second of her trip.
Anna is currently a student at Nicholls State University, where she is majoring in sociology with a concentration in social work. Her dream job is to be a Social Worker at Children’s Hospital of New Orleans to work with kids who have cancer. Anna loves to give kids hope. She does this by volunteering at Camp Challenge and Prom of Champions. She also likes to give back to Children’s Hospital of New Orleans by volunteering at the telethon and jazz half marathon each year. Anna is busy with all her volunteering but does not stop there. She is also an intern at the MakeAWish Foundation and an official wish ambassador for the foundation. Anna believes that everything happens for a reason and that you can do anything you put your mind too.
