Luke was 4 when he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called ALD. He was born with this disease and the ALD has also caused Luke to have Addison's Disease. He also has Duarte Galactocemia, but that doesn't stop his love of the beach and water! He wished to go to Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida to swim with dolphins and touch sea life!
Luke loves to play the dirt, play World of Warcraft with his dad and brothers, and catch frogs, lizards, and insects. He also has two brothers, one that has also been transplanted for ALD. For the past 2 years, these boys have gone through so much. The umbilical cord blood transplant they received took place in Durham, NC and the family had to move away from their home for a year. The family was so excited and thankful that Luke was chosen for this honor!
Luke has always loved playing in the water, which was one reason why his wish was to go to Atlantis!
Luke was ready for the most intense slide in the whole park!
Luke was brave enough to go down the 60 foot nearly vertical water slide!
The dolphins really loved Luke!
Luke was so excited to fulfill this part of his wish!
Luke got to have dolphin hugs!
Luke got to feed the dolphins too!
This disease is so deceiving. Our boys seem to be normal and healthy until symptoms make an outwardly appearance and by then, transplant is out of the equation. It robs our boys of everything. Luke was diagnosed at an earlier stage because of his brother's previous diagnosis. We are all so excited for the trip and even more thankful that the boys are well enough to be going.
