Jakub’s wish to go to Scotland was granted in May 2017! He was joined by his mother, Elaine, grandmother, Cindy, and little brother, Kyle. They began their adventures with a limousine ride to the airport, and it was off to Scotland from there! The first stop was Fort William, Scotland, where they stayed in the village of Banavie with beautiful views of the landscape. The hosts there had filled Jakub’s Air B&B with Harry Potter themed items – just in time for his Harry Potter tours! While in Fort William, the family visited the Grog and Gruel Traditional Alehouse where JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter. From there, they boarded the actual train used in the Harry Potter movies – as “The Hogwarts Express” – which begins there, taking them across the Glenfinnian viaduct, a historical site also featured prominently in the Harry Potter films! The “Hogwarts Express” is really a vintage steam train, appropriately called “The Jacobite”.
Their stops included exploring the grounds of Stirling Castle, followed by a trip to the Glasgow Science Centre, where Jakub got to explore a world of science – which just happens to be his favorite subject in school! Next on the list was Castle Urquhart, which was made complete with a guided cruise on Loch Ness where they even spotted Nessy, the Loch Ness monster. On their way to the Highland Games, they explored the historical Blair Castle and Gardens in the Scottish Highlands.
Jakub and his family finished up the wish trip with a wonderful time at the Highland Games, which take place from Cowal to Tomintoul. They saw all variations of Gaelic and Celtic traditional competitions including dancing, tug-o-war, piping, track and field events, the hammer toss and tossing the caber. After such a fun filled trip, Jakub and his family will have memories to last a lifetime!
